Tails
Sometimes I feel like a lost dog,
With her leash still wrapped about her neck.
Trapped in the bushes near her home,
Muted by the tug and pull of
Her collar.
Sometimes I feel like a lost dog.
Barking at strangers
Hoping someone will take me home.
To hold me
Rather
Than hide me
In their room when company is over.
Sometimes I feel like a lost dog.
Having to choose between shelter and neglect
Or
Fever and Freedom.
Chasing my own tail,
Tugging at a leash stuck to a branch
That I’ve tied myself too.
