Tails: An excerpt from Porridge: A Memoir

Tails

Sometimes I feel like a lost dog,

With her leash still wrapped about her neck.

Trapped in the bushes near her home,

Muted by the tug and pull of

Her collar.

Sometimes I feel like a lost dog.

Barking at strangers

Hoping someone will take me home.

To hold me

Rather

Than hide me

In their room when company is over.

Sometimes I feel like a lost dog.

Having to choose between shelter and neglect

Or

Fever and Freedom.

Chasing my own tail,

Tugging at a leash stuck to a branch

That I’ve tied myself too.

Porridge: A Memoir

A memoir about life after death, and a little girl who nearly lost her life after her father lost his.

Here’s a list of the other excerpts if you’ve missed them: RailingsDominoes, DestinyMagnolia,PorridgeHair5:24am and Cemetery
