Porridge: An Excerpt from Porridge: A Memoir

Porridge

Porridge:

A lumpy morning soup.

Like oatmeal, only

Made with oats or cornmeal.

It’s sweet and filling,

And quickly finished.

The scent of nutmeg,

Cinnamon

And brown sugar.

Porridge:

It fills you up and keeps you warm.

Daddy made it best,

Eat the corners first, they won’t burn your tongue.”

Porridge:

What we have left to remember.

It’s sweet and filling,

And quickly finished.

Like life,

Like love,

Like him.

It’s sweet and filling

And all gone.

Like Daddy.

Porridge: A Memoir

A memoir about life after death, and a little girl who nearly lost her life after her father lost his.
